Used to be, I could see my life falling away, falling prey
To strip malls, and movie scenes, and white walls beneath beauty queens
But now I choose to just sit right here
With a full view of a California cut-out couple drinking beer on a beach somewhere
There's more to life
More than breathing
More than getting by
More than believing
You say you're gonna sell all your stuff
And set out for the highway
You'll pack your tent and your tobacco
And you won't be going my way
'Cause I'm a broken down train
At a summer burger joint
By the side of the road
Where the tourists sit down to eat
I'm amusing, I can lighten your load
But I'm stationary
I have no track
I'm stationary
And when I do it always takes me back
To the place where I hide out
I have to unlock my heart
So you can hear it shouting
Sometimes I feel so bloody blessed
And I hold my life tight to my chest
But if I want nothing to change how can I progress
My friends are gone, they've given up
They're off to find the well of success and fill their cups
They're tired of my tireless philosophies
They're tired of my rambling daydream poetry
There's more to life
More than breathing
More than getting by
More than believing
Someday I'll sell all my stuff and set out for the highway
I'll pack my tent and my guitar and my note-book
Is it my way?
Or am I a broken down train
At a summer burger joint
By the side of the road
Where the tourists sit down to eat
I'm amusing, I can lighten your load
But I'm stationary
I have no track
I'm stationary
And when I do it always takes me back
To the place where I hide out
I have to unlock my heart
So you can hear it shouting
